Certiied Localisation Professionals Program

Sri Lanka created history by being the 1st nation in Asia to acquire the internationally recognised accreditation, Certified Localisation Professional (CLP) from The Institute of Localisation Professionals (TILP), the only international body that offers certification in this field.  The LAKapps Centre, University of Moratuwa partnered with SLASSCOM (Sri Lanka Association of Software and Service Companies) to organise the 4-day CLP certification process at the University of Moratuwa from 10-13, November 2009.  Eighteen localisation practitioners from industry and academia participated in this programme, funded by ICTA.

CLP consists of seven on-line modules, practical tests and a 4-day on-site training.  Sri Lankan practitioners in the field of localisation participated for the training, which was conducted by Ms. Patricia Muñoz Tavira, a qualified trainer from the TILP, Europe.

The four-day certification process was followed by a glamorous awards ceremony held at the Mount Lavinia Hotel.  Representatives from the industry, academia, TILP and ICTA participated at the event.  Addressing the gathering, Prof. Gihan Dias, a pioneer in the field of localisation and who spearheaded the organization of the whole event said, “Localisation has a lot of potential of being a huge industry both locally and internationally.  We have been in the field of localisation for many years and now we are glad to be Certified Localisation Professionals.  Although this is the first batch, we hope to continue the certification process for more practitioners for the progress of the localisation field in Sri Lanka.”
